"After the Collapse of Communism" is an excellent addition to the emerging literature on post-communist states. The contributors develop and test a number of original theoretical propositions about the ways institutional legacies, policy choices, and international pressures have shaped the political and economic development of the post-communist region. The essays are individually first-rate, and the volume as a whole achieves a rare level of theoretical coherance.
